Setting a fun (but appropriate!) fancy dress theme for the office Christmas party isn’t easy. Our team is here with the ones they’re seeing work best.

The office Christmas party is just around the corner and if your team’s event is anything like, well, most work parties at this time of year, you’ve been deciding… and re-deciding (and re-deciding again) on your fancy dress outfit for months (girls) and you’re just about realising there’s a fancy dress theme (boys). And, no, simply sticking a bit of mistletoe to your forehead won’t cut the mustard, gents.

Trust us, the team here at The Stoop run Christmas parties every year and we’ve seen it all.

But, if you’re organising your office party and want to get tongues wagging (in all the right ways) about it, we’ve compiled a list of the fancy dress themes we’re seeing most in 2018 to help you and your team out-shine the star atop the tree. You’re welcome…

One of the hottest trends in Christmas party outfits this year is uniforms. Can’t think why.

Why not ask everyone to turn up to the office Christmas party dressed up as what they wanted to be when they were a child?

From a firefighter, doctor and pilot to flight attendant, sailor, police officer and astronaut, there’s a costume out there for almost every profession.

Once Upon a Time

Companies with teams of creatives love a fairy-tale themed party. Anything goes here from Cinderella, Goldilocks, the Wizard of Oz and Beauty and the Beast to Alice in Wonderland, Snow White and their favourite Disney and Pixar characters. You can really let employees unleash their creative side with this theme.

Heroes and villains

2018 was the year of The Incredibles 2, Avengers: Infinity War and, um, Deadpool 2. So, needless to say, plenty of office Christmas parties are jumping on the Superhero-super-bandwagon.

Here at The Stoop, we always appreciate our guests turning up as Harley Quinn of course!

But a little creativity means you can expand your horizons. Superheroes, film villains, gangsters, pirates, angels and devils are all popular choices in 2018.

Your era

Whether they’re a 60s hippy or an 80s rocker, employees love dressing up in the era they were born. This is a great way to get an even broader selection of costumes as it’s unlikely two people are going to turn up in the same costume.

Christmas Parties TwickenhamAround the world

International companies are celebrating the diversity of their staff in 2018 with themes that offer employees the opportunity to come dressed in something that reflects their home country.

Whether someone wants to turn up dressed as a flamenco dancer, a kangaroo, the Statue of Liberty or even a polar bear (unlikely, admittedly), an around the world theme is gaining in popularity and provides everyone with a whole host of dressing up opportunities.

So maybe you’re already stuck with a generic ‘Christmas’ fancy dress theme. Yawn!

But that’s no excuse for being boring. For Christmas costumes that are a bit more original, try the following:

  • Gingerbread man
  • Christmas pudding
  • Toy soldier
  • A turkey (just stay away from the oven!)
  • Grab a friend and team up as Mr and Mrs Claus

Now you’ve got your fancy dress theme sorted for your office Christmas party, you just need a great venue. The Stoop hosts a fantastic selection of shared and private Christmas party nights and companies of all sizes are welcome to join in the fun.
